Senator Mullin affirms immigration enforcement procedures according to federal law.
The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, held the initial hearing on Wednesday for President Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Homeland Security, Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma.
Senator Mullin stated that he would work “every single day to not just secure our homeland, but bring peace of mind and confidence to the agency.” He affirmed that judicial warrants would be used to enter homes and sensitive places.
He stated, “My goal at six months is that we’re not in the lead story every single day. My goal is for people to understand we’re out there. We’re protecting them.”
“The truth is, I have a job to do, and I don’t like to fail at anything at all… I’m going to earn the job. I won’t fail you,” Senator Mullin said. “And I’ll also admit when I’m wrong. I’m not perfect. I don’t claim to be perfect. I make mistakes just like anybody else. But mistakes, if you own them, you can learn from them and you can move ahead. And I’ll make that commitment to you.”
Meanwhile, President Trump sent a letter to the Senate minority this week with concessions to encourage them to fund the Department of Homeland Security. The appropriations for DHS ran out over a month ago, but Senate Minority Leader Schumer declared the recent firing of Secretary Noem was not enough of a change, demanding further immigration enforcement reforms.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senator Mullin and his family as he goes through the Senate confirmation process.
- For wisdom for President Trump as he selects individuals to appoint to federal posts.
- For members of the Senate as they conduct confirmation hearings for positions in federal agencies and the federal bench.
